HUM 221: Last day of class, summing up
If you had to sum up HUM 221 in 25 words or less (and you do, because I'm assigning it now), what would you say? In other words, what’s the one most important thing you learned. Post your answer as a comment to this blog post.
The one thing that I learned is that Native Americans are more than meets the eye. There is a deep meaning to everything they say, write and do. You just have to look inside.
I think the most important thing I have learned is the Trail of Tears. I think that was the most important thing because it effected the town that I live in and we still reinact the Trail of Tears to this day!!
this class allowed me to get a better idea of how another culture and another type of heritage viewed everyday occurances. The most impressive thing is the comparison of their reactions to ours in similar events.
The most important thing that I learned about Native Americans is that they are a lot civilized then what I was taught in grade school. The were they portayed when I was young was as "savages." I didn't know that Indians were still alive today and that they were still very active in their cultures and traditions.
I learned that Native Americans struggle with keeping their heritage alive more than i thought. Its a struggle for them to keep it alive but their ceremonies and celebrations help them do so.
I believe that the most impotant thing I learned in HUM 221 was about how the Indians lived & were treated in the past. This is important because we didn't always treat them fairly and now we can learn from our mistakes. This opens our eyes to a new culture and new customs.
I believe that this class taught me a lot about the Native American culture and what they had to go through. Also it took many efforts to keep their culture and traditions alive today.
I learned about Native American culture and the different aspects such as traditions, religion, and how they feel. The biggest part that stuck out in my mind was the second essay. I felt like I realted to the author because I know what it feels like to be away from home and miss where you came from. Overall this class was interesting.
The most important thing i learned was that how fun learning about Native American could be. I loved learning about the Potawimi trail of death and the adventure i went on to find one of the mile markers. I will miss being in your class i had a lot of fun you are a wonderful teacher. I hope you have a wonderful summer.
In Hum 221, I learned things I hadn't before from taking other history classes about Native Americans and their culture. I also found the poems we read very intersting.
Native Americans care more about what is going on around them and for other people. They have a great community. Like the Cherokee always held on to their beliefs and a part of there old way of life. Its almost like a huge family that Native Americans have. They always bring people together, among there people, or even the white man. They always hold too there beliefs and their way of life. I think that is how the Native American people last for so long, they fight for who they are and for their people.
If a student had any interest what so ever they should definitly take this class. Maybe the most important thing that I learned was the knowledge of how we forced the Indians around. We don't hear this stuff in history class. Just like the history classes in England don't cover the Revolutionary War.
It was an actual learning experience, seeing as how i knew too much of anything before i came into Native American cultural expression. The course taught new and amazing things about native americans as a people, their culture, and their anicent traditions. Seeing how they are able to cope with nature along with arising problems, influences me as a person. One of the most important things that i learned over the course is how Native Americans today still survive and learn from their ancestors. Most of the things that Native Americans participate in today, such as some of the rituals and entertainment ceremonies(powwows)still have a lot to do with the native ancestors. When these rituals take place, it seems as if they're kind of giving praise to the culture, while showing their appreciation for the beliefs that have lived long. Native Americans are very couragous and cultural people. I beleive this because they share and give unto others, their culture and traditions,more often than any other cukture, in my opinion.
i know that entering this class i knew nothing about idians and now i do i will take with me new knowledge of their life style and lots of other new things i enjoyed this class and i leaving with more than i came with
Fun, fun, fun!no serious it proves the fact that there is always more detail to everything, including people and culture when the reality and is exposed instead of just heresay.

ReplyDeleteI learned about the Trail of Death the passed right through Springfield. It's a big part of Illinois history and Springfield history.

ReplyDeleteI would have to say the most important thing Ive learned is the story of family! Togetherness is what kept them alive on the trail of tears!

Hum 221 was interesting, the movie was good, and native american people went through some bad situations.
