Classical music of India - some basics - and an awesome zither-like instrument

Perhaps the best introduction (read as: the best one I've found so far) is a blog by Likhati, an Indian writer living in London who, in her words, "[u]sed to be a lawyer" and is interested in dogs, cats and "Indian Classical Music" (she lists them in that order), along with religion, diasporic communities and other topics ... link here - http://www.likhati.com/introduction-to-indian-classical-music/

Also a 30-minute interview with Jayanthi Kumaresh, who plays the veena - a fretted lute-like, zither-like instrument ... YouTube has a 1:13-minute tease and this link - http://video.webindia123.com/interviews/musician/jayanthikumaresh/index.htm to the full interview.

Thank you Pete. I am constantly rewriting the series so any sort of feedback is welcome. I hope to continue it, as it's been a few months since I updated the page. If you're interested in the Veena I have done a post on it here: http://www.likhati.com/2009/02/09/v-is-for-veena/
Some of us Indian music enthusiasts are working on a website dedicated to the veena.
